Max, I have adored, yes adored, your work since I started reading your SMH columns back in the day (I am 60). I think you had a great TV presence as well and we should have seen more of that down the years. Anyway, I think you downplay your ability as an accurate and knowledgeable tipster, so it is now fantastic that I get to compare my form reading assessments against your Saturday summaries via this website, just to see if I am missing something. But most of all I really enjoy the humour you always bring to your writing and commentary – you are unique in that regard. What I find most impressive is your ability to refer to historical events and stories and relate them to modern times and modern thinking. With reference to racing, you do better tham most in comparing, as best you can, current champions with previous generations of champions. You are one of the few mid-80 years olds I know that “moves with the times”.
Anyhow, it still flummoxes me how I could have enjoyed a Souths fan so much for so long. But I just felt compelled to let you know how much I have enjoyed your work.

I am flummoxed how one gifted with judgement can be a “lifelong Eastern Suburbs fan”. However some may deduce your choice of tabloid hacks leaves much to be desired.
